Weather & Today At The Zoo
This page is provided as a service to Zoo visitors in case of inclement weather or other circumstances that may effect your planned visit to Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo.

11/2/09: Going Green at the Zoo!

Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa Electric, and the USF Power Center for Utility Explorations are launching a renewable energy project.

Because the safety and wellbeing of animals in our care are top priorities, the elephants and other animals may be off exhibit temporarily while solar panels are installed. We regret any inconvenience.

As a center for conservation, Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo aims to make energy conservation part of our daily operations, reducing impact on the environment by using best practices that  include recycling, composting, and alternate sources of renewable energy.

10/5/09: The Kangaroo Walkabout is currently closed for refurbishment as we bring a new Aussie species to Wallaroo Station. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

6/9/09: Please be aware that the Zoo is currently experiencing a higher than average patient load in the David A. Straz, Jr. Manatee Hospital. This is temporarily resulting in decreased visibility in the underwater manatee viewing pools.  The water filtration system is monitored daily, and although the appearance of the water can be unsightly, the animals are not at risk.

We need your help to keep the neighborhood safe.

We take security very seriously here at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo and ask for your help in the following ways:

  • Did you leave your car unlocked, even for a minute?
  • Did you leave a purse or other valuables in plain sight?
  • Did you leave your vehicle running?

Most vehicles targeted by thieves have at least one of these things in common.  This is how thieves select a vehicle to burglarize.  A vehicle break-in could occur anywhere, including your driveway.  If you don’t leave your car running, don’t leave valuables in plain sight, and don’t leave your car unlocked, you can greatly reduce the chances of becoming a victim.

With your help, we can all make sure your time at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is always safe and enjoyable.  If you have questions, concerns or suggestions, please let me know.
