| Position Summary |
Certified veterinary technician responsible for providing all technical and medical support/assistance in the care and treatment of all Zoo specimens under the supervision of the veterinarian. |
| Essential Functions: |
- Assisting with immobilizations, surgeries and all other medical procedures.
- Providing routine clinical pathology analysis including hematology, serum chemistries, cytology, microbiology and parasitology.
- Maintaining medical records and assists in data entry.
- Must be proficient at using and maintaining radiography machine and processor, anesthesia machine, blood chemistry analyzer, autoclave, microscope, pulse oximeter and other medical equipment as directed.
- Caring for all hospitalized or quarantined animals, including administering medications and obtaining blood samples or other appropriate specimens as needed.
- Monitoring and evaluating individual animal responses to medical treatment.
- Responsible for following quarantine and preventative health programs as directed by the veterinarian.
- Supervises hospital assistant, hospital keeper, interns and volunteers.

- Must be able to gather and analyze data accurately, effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with others. Must be able to adapt to frequently changing conditions and various job details. Must be able to use computer word processing and medical records programs. Must be able to work independently under minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated and able to function as a team player.

| Education: |
- Must be a certified veterinary technican with a minimum of 2 years experience, preferably within a zoological or similar type setting.
|
| Physical Requirements: |
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 65 pounds and withstand typical Florida climate.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
