Position Overview:

Director of Facilities is responsible for coordinating daily activities for a crew of 15.  The Zoo’s Maintenance Department performs preventative and routine maintenance for facilities including rides, structures, roadways, walkways, water systems, animal exhibits, equipment, vehicles, etc.  The Department responds to irregular operations and emergencies as needed.  The Director also oversees IT personnel responsible for computers, phones, POS, electronic security systems, and internal communications networks (fiber optics, phones, and wireless systems). 

The Director recommends changes to current programs, maintenance plans, and procedures based on a team performance environment. A successful candidate will be a proven professional leader with exhibited experience in facilities maintenance and management that works in cooperation with the organization as a whole to support a facility that is safe and well-maintained.

Responsibilities:

Management:

  • Directly manages employees in the Maintenance Department. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Inspects and follows up on work done by direct reports – spends time each day observing inspections, repairs and rehab projects.
  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels within the maintenance department.
  • Maintains interdepartmental communications relating to urgency and prioritization of outstanding work orders.

Vendor Relations:

  • Conduct prospecting for new vendors and obtain competitive bidding for maintenance and capital projects.
  • Facilitating meetings/presentations/training with vendors/employees.

Compliance: 

  • Coordinates and ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and standards, DEP, EPC, SWFWMD, AZA, USDA, Florida Bureau of Ride Inspections, etc. 
  • Researches industry standards and regulations and develops and maintains protocols to ensure compliance.  Monitor quality standards and reliability controls.
  • Meets and makes contacts with government representatives in areas applicable to keeping the facility and rides in compliance with local, state and federal laws.

Project Management:

  • Manages multiple projects and programs while keeping management well informed of progress/status for each assignment. Manages capital projects.
Skills Needed:
  • Order processing
  • Internet software
  • Inventory
  • Database and contact management software 
  • Working knowledge of both basic and complex multi-stage control systems.
  • Ability to understand operation of amusement rides from simple start/stop circuits to PLC controllers, including Allen Bradley PLC programming and troubleshooting experience. 
  • Regulatory (OSHA, DEP, EPC, USDA, etc.)
  • Project management & work plans (Facility Wizard)


Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of senior management level experience


Physical Requirements:
  • Work outdoors in typical Florida climate.
  • Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and special events.
