This position is responsible for providing superior customer service and safety information to all passengers; providing safe operation of the Sirenia and all Eco-Tours and rentals; and monitoring and maintaining all boat equipment and routine maintenance including logs. The position will be required to rotate with other crew members to perform the duties of the Naturalist.

• Responsible for the general functioning, upkeep and safe operation of the Sirenia.  Duties include but are not limited to upkeep and cleaning, monitoring and maintaining all boat equipment, maintain routine maintenance and accurate logs, and preparing for the next days operation.
• Provide exceptional customer service to zoo guests during their trip on the Sirenia.  Politely and diplomatically explain, follow, and enforce zoo policies and procedures concerning both guests and employees.
• Answer, or obtain answers for, basic questions concerning the Eco-Tour and zoo operations in general.
• Responsible for all employees assigned to the Eco Tour.
• Maintain the integrity of  Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo at all times.
• Assist with employee breaks as necessary.
• All other duties as assigned.

Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude even in difficult situations.  Must have full knowledge of all rules and regulations in navigation of vessel.

Must be able to direct and instruct crew and passengers. Must have excellent communication skills in addition, be detail-oriented. Must be able to follow assigned routines. Must be able to keep up with cleaning and organizing of the boat and work area. Must be able to respond quickly in regards to boat safety.

A high school or equivalency diploma is preferred. Maintain CPR and First Aid certification. Master Captains license with 25 tonnage.  Must be registered with the APCA.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to stand for long periods of time.  Must be able to withstand typical Florida climate. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to maneuver safely on the boat.
