Position Summary:

This position is responsible for supervising the employees as well as the general functions of the ride operations, which includes the Eco-Tour boat crew and tram driver. The position is also responsible to assist with all other needs throughout the whole department and to assist with coverage for the other department management team or entry level positions.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Monitors the daily functions of the Visitor Services ride department and Eco-Tour, its services and staff members and the daily functions of any other area of the department that needs assistance.
  • Assist with coverage on a daily basis for ride attendants breaks and will fill in as needed for the ride breaker.
  • Assist with the supervision of the visitor services staff consisting of Visitor Services ride representatives, which includes the Eco-Tour staff, and assist other management staff with coverage in any other areas as needed.
  • Interviews potential candidates for positions open within all areas of the department.
  • Provides training and orientation to new employees including radio training for all ride positions.
  • Daily will evaluates the performance of the staff members and recommends improvements as necessary. Counsels employees for disciplinary problems.
  • Responsible to assist the supervisor with the probationary and annual evaluations for all ride attendants and Eco-Tour staff.
  • Recommends and implements changes to enhance efficiency as well as to improve the quality of customer service provided to our guests.
  • Serves Zoo visitors at any position throughout the zoo whenever necessary.
  • Works closely with security staff in all types of emergencies, (i.e., lost children/parents, first aid, etc.)
  • Responds to all first aid emergencies concerning visitors, when requested by security, and/or employees. 
  • Responsible to assist with the operation of the Zoo-wide lightning detector system as well as some electronic and computer equipment.
  • Responsible to assist management with any reports that are required by our department.
  • Responsible for keeping inventory of supplies needed by all ride areas, including the Eco Tour, and communicating ordering needs to management.
  • Responsible for scheduling of all ride and Eco-Tour positions within the department and covering any position that needs to be covered.
  • Maintains the integrity of the Zoo through a high level of quality service.
  • Must be able to plan for, work and staff special events and exhibits as well as being available for unexpected shifts and emergencies.
  • Must be able to cover any management shift for unexpected shifts and emergencies.
  • Monitors the proper handling of all lost and found items within the Zoo.
Desirable Skills:
  • Must be able to communicate well with the public and present a positive attitude even in difficult situations. 
  • Must be detail oriented and possess good record keeping methods. 
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills. 
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to prioritize the work of staff. 
  • Must be able to train and motivate staff members.
  • Must be able to think logically and solve any problems that arise with little or no guidance.
Education Requirements:
  • Must possess a high school or equivalency diploma.  Some college or specialized training in the areas of supervision, customer service or the hospitality industry is preferred.
    A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum educational requirements.

Experience:
  • Prefer some supervisory experience, preferably in a zoo, aquarium or museum type of environment.
  • Experience in cashiering functions and/or accounting methods is preferred. 
  • Computer experience is a must.
Licenses:
  • A valid Florida State driver's lLicense with a clean driving record for the past 5 years.
    The following licenses are preferred but are not mandatory for this position.
  • A Florida CDL Class B driver's license with a Passenger endorsement.
  • A U.S.C.G. 25 Ton Boat Captain license.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and be able to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Must be able to withstand the typical Florida climate for up to 8 hours at a time. 
  • Must be able to work on nights, weekends, holidays, events and be flexible for daily coverage. 
  • Must be able to work with adults and children of various backgrounds.
