| Position Summary |
Assists the Registrar in compiling and maintaining the Zoo’s animal records on ARKS and provides information for genetic management, health management, reproductive histories, breeding strategies, and population life histories to the curatorial and medical staff. Assist in the development of the collection inventory records and animal transactions in order to ensure compliance with Federal and State wildlife laws. The Assistant Registrar fills in for the Registrar and can perform the full range of duties in the Registrar’s absence. |
| Essential Functions: |
- Assists in collection and maintenance of an inventory of all information regarding the Zoo’s animal collection.
- Records daily transactions, births, deaths, and collection changes in the Zoo’s electronic database as well as supportive hard copy files.
- Assists in the application of wildlife permits and monitors as well as interprets animal legislative issues on the Federal and State level.
- Assists as a data specialist in providing the administration and curatorial staff with various statistical analysis and reports.
- May assist as a liaison between the Zoo, outside organizations, and zoological institutions on matters of collection records and related issues.
- Assists in the publication of the annual inventory and other various annual reports.

| Desirable Skills |
- PC literate with MS Office, Windows, Internet and database management experience.
- Working knowledge of the IATA regulations and implementation, CITES Convention as well as the U.S. Endangered Species Act.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and can balance multiple assignments successfully.

| Education: |
- Associate or Bachelor degree in biology or the natural sciences or equivalent training and experience.
- Minimum of three years of clerical training. Preference will be given to work experience in a zoological or museum setting.

| Physical Requirements: |
- Must be able to withstand typical Florida climate.
- Willing to work varied hours and perform at a computer work station for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 45 pounds without difficulty.
