Position Summary:

Responsible for the timely process and computer data entry of new member, renewing member and special membership applications. Also, responsible for the printing and mailing of membership cards, renewal/lapse notices and fulfillment packages.  Provide information and handle customer service inquiries at on-site booth and via phone calls.  Assist with the preparation of departmental reports and tracking of promotional campaigns, as well as general filing and office duties.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service by interfacing with the public both in person and on the telephone.
  • Assist the visitors with membership inquiries and complaints, as well as general Zoo information questions as they arise.
  • Perform cash handling functions by the following: Indicate total cost to the purchaser; Receive money from the purchaser via cash, check, charge cards, travelers checks, etc.; Return appropriate change to purchaser, when applicable.
  • Print and mail membership cards and fulfillment packages.
  • Enter membership applications and renewals into computer maintaining maximum of 2-week turnaround from application date.
  • Process address changes/keep records current.
  • Assist with special department mailings and correspondence.
  • Prepare renewal records for monthly mailings.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual membership reports.
  • Assist Visitor Services staff with membership issues as they arise (Assist front gate employees with anything pertaining to memberships and/or members).
  • Assist with in-Zoo and off-site events as needed  (i.e. Membership Drives, Special Events, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.
Desirable Skills:
  • Must be able to accurately and efficiently use a computer and typewriter. 
  • Must be able to use basic office machinery including the telephone, calculator and fax machine.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Windows. 
  • Must have excellent communication skills. 
  • Must be details-oriented, organized and able to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Must have a pleasant and helpful phone manner and superior people skills. 
  • Must be able to work as part of a team, while successfully interfacing with a variety of people and personalities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Must be able to follow instructions and prescribed routines.
Education Requirements:
  • High school or equivalency diploma. 

  • Customer service training and/or advanced clerical office training is preferred.


Experience:
  • Clerical office experience or a position servicing the public is preferred. Specialized training or experience in a zoo, aquarium or museum type setting is also preferred.

  • Cash handling experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit and work at computer for extended periods of time. 
  • Must be able to work in a small office space.
  • Must be able to successfully interact with a variety of customers, often in diverse situations. 
  • Must be able to maintain professional composure at all times. 
  • Flexibility in the aspect of working weekends and holidays is necessary. 
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. is also necessary.
