Can we bring food into the Zoo?
There is no outside food or drink allowed inside the Zoo, however, we are surrounded by Lowry Park. You can exit the Zoo, eat in the park and come back in (be sure to get your hand stamped). There are restaruants and snack vendors on Zoo property, or you can call Zoo Catering at Ext. 254 about group lunches.
Are there any rides at the Zoo?
Yes, Contact Visitor Services at Ext. 246 for information on our rides and also on our River Odyssey Eco-tour.
Is parking free?
Yes
Can we cancel a field trip?
Yes, please call. If you get voice mail, please leave a message with the school name and the date you are cancelling. If you want to reschedule, please leave the new date on the voice message as well. Change the date on your reservation form and we will change the date on our end. A phone message is sufficient.
Where do we check in when we arrive?
Group leaders will go to the main front gate to pay for everyone.
Are reservations required? Yes, please call to make a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance.

What is the difference between Animal Tails and ABC Animal Explorers?
Animal Tails includes a story time, a craft, a snack, and a Zoo Hike. ABC Animal Explorers includes an interactive circle time, a craft, a snack, a play/social time, and a Zoo Hike.
If public school is out, may I pay extra to bring an older sibling?
Yes. We ask that your additional older sibling respect our Zoo rules and not interrupt the class routine.
What is the maximum class size?
25 total students for ABC Animal Explorers and Animal Tails. 15 total students for Home School.
Can I bring my baby to class?
Yes, we just ask that you step out of the classroom with your baby if he/she begins to cry for a long period of time as to not take away from the quality of the programming for the age appropriate children.
What type of a teaching background do the instructors have?
All of our instructors have a Bachelor in Science degree in either Early Childhood Education or Environmental Education.
Why is it so important to register at least 2 weeks prior to class?
It is important to register 2 weeks prior to class to give our instructors advance notice of total class participants. All of our crafts are hand cut and require a great deal of time to prepare the supplies.
My child has severe food allergies. May I bring my own snack?
Yes. We understand and are very happy to make sure your child is comfortable and happy.
My child loves your tot programs. Do you offer any special holiday theme classes?
Yes. We offer several Holiday theme classes throughout the year. Please visit our online catalog for details.
Can I pay for classes online?
Unfortunately, not at this time. Please check back frequently.
Is a Zoo Hike included as part of every class?
Yes, a Zoo Hike is included with every class unless the weather does not permit. At which time we will bring an Outreach Animal into the classroom for your child to visit with.

Does the Zoo do Birthday Parties?
Yes, the Zoo does birthday parties through the Zoo School. Please call 813-935-8552 X232 for available dates and pricing.
Where are the parties held?
The Zoo birthday parties are held at The Zoo School in our classrooms or in the Frank E. Duckwall Lecture Hall. Both are located at the Zoo School. The classroom can hold a max of 40 people, or the Lecture Hall can hold a max of 100 people.
When do you have your parties?
Parties are held on Saturday and Sunday only, at 10am and 1pm.
Does the Zoo provide food?
No, the Zoo does not provide food for your party. You may bring your own food, cake, etc., but please note that all food brought into our facility must be taken to your car before you go into the main part of the Zoo. This is for the safety of our animals. The Zoo does, however, provide the juice, and water.
What do you offer with the Birthday Party Package?
The party package includes - room rental for an hour and a half, animal encounter, age appropriate activities, and Zoo admission for you and all of your guests.
What kinds of animals are available for the "animal encounter"?
All of the animals used for our Birthday Parties come from the Education Department. We have a wide variety of animals that may be available for your party. These animals include reptiles like snakes, skinks, turtles, etc. We also have a variety of birds that include different parrots, owls, a kestrel, etc. We do have mammals available for parties as well. These animals include a rabbit, a skunk, a kinkajou, a prairie dog, etc. We cannot promise that any individual animal will be available. Please note that like people, animals sometimes have a bad day and on these days will not be available.
Can the children hold the animals?
No, the instructor is the only person that can hold the animals. They will however, let everyone come to see it up close, and depending on the animal, let the children touch it.
How much does the party cost?
The cost of the party is based upon how many people will be attending, (adults and children COMBINED)
