On-Site Programs
All over the planet animals face threats to their survival. For various reasons such as encroachment on habitat and hunting, several animals have been put at risk of extinction. As part of our commitment to world-wide conservation efforts, Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo participates in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) on our grounds.

This program, designed by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) was put in place to help ensure the survival of selected wildlife species through breeding, integrated conservation strategies, increased public awareness of wildlife conservation issues, research and to reintroduce captive-bred wildlife into restored or secure habitat as appropriate and necessary.
