Reproduction: Gestation period of 8 months, Ewes give birth to twins the first time and triplets are not uncommon-the record litter is 8 on the island of Barbados. Lambs are small, weighing up to about eight pounds. Ewes are excellent mothers, and lambs bond rapidly. The babies are on their feet within the first 15 minutes, and playing/jumping within the first hour.


Barbados sheep are distinctly marked-belly and inside of the legs are black, front legs are black in front from the knees down, a line of black goes across the top of the head, two black lines go down the front of the face, color of the sheep's back and sides may vary from dark brown to almost red to light tan.
