RADIATED TORTOISE
(Geochelone radiata)
Range: Southern Madagascar
Habitat: Dry regions of brush, thorn forests and woodlands.
Diet: Grasses, fruits and succulent plants.
Status: Vulnerable (IUCN)

Weight: Up to 35 pounds
Length: Average 16 inches
Offspring: Lay 3-12 eggs that are incubated for 5-8 months.

These tortoises are endangered, mainly because of the destruction of their habitat by humans and because of poaching.

The oldest tortoise ever recorded, indeed the oldest reptile ever recorded, was a radiated tortoise, “Tui Malila”, which lived to the age of 188.
