SOUTHERN COPPERHEAD
(Agkistrodon contortrix contortrix)
Range:  
Habitat: They are most often found near brushpiles, rockpiles and fallen logs
Diet: Mostly active at night, the copperhead feeds on small rodents, lizards, frogs, large caterpillars, and cicadas.

Reproduction: Live-bearer, they mate from spring to fall, and 1-14 young are born August to early October. They mature in 2-3 years.

The young have a yellow-tipped tail which they twitch to attract some of their prey. During the fall many will gather in rock outcrops which also serve as winter dens.
