Hours / Week: These opportunities are available weekends, and have flexible hours, but are assigned on a first come first serve basis.
Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the instruction and supervision of Birthday Parties, Nite Sites, Scout Workshops, and Holiday Break Camps as needed for the Education Department.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ability to manage workload to ensure timely completion of assignments of self and staff.
  • Ability to work independently, with general direction from Education Manager.
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral skills.
  • Ability to work well with the public of all ages and to provide a high level of service to zoo visitors, program participants, and zoo staff.
  • Working knowledge of effective educational techniques. Knowledge of state, national, and international environmental education issues and topics.
  • Knowledge of modern day zoos, the purposes and goals, and conservation themes and meanings.
  • Animal handling experience. (snakes, gators, other reptiles, owls, etc.).
Skills Needed:
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Adapt to situations quickly without jeopardizing the integrity if the program.
  • Highly motivated, organized with a positive team player attitude.
  • High energy level and able to adapt to a variety of personalities.
Education Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in education, environmental studies, or related field. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Must have a valid FL driver’s license.
Physical Requirements: You must be able to lift 50 pounds, play actively with children on their level, bend over, stand for extensive periods of time, move quickly when necessary, and work and move outside in the typical Florida climate, at times temperatures exceeding 90 degrees.
