Position Summary:

The Assistant Supervisor aids management in all aspects of store operations. This is a full time position and includes benefits.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: Employee Management & Training
  • Assist in training new staff members as needed.
  • Keep self and associates informed and in compliance with all Zoo policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Create a positive team mentality.
  • Analyze productivity to maintain workflow efficiency and addresses problem areas.
  • Assist Management in other areas as needed.
  • Full responsibility of Nature’s Kingdom and Adventure Outfitters gift shops to include but not limited to; Sales, Customer Service, Store Maintenance & Cleanliness, and Visual Merchandising Standards.

Sales and Budgeting

  • Work with management to ensure action is taken to achieve sales goals and correct negative sales trends.
  • Work with management to develop creative plans to increase store sales.
  • Ensure required department reports and logs are accurate and up to date.
  • Communicate customer feedback (best sellers and recommendations) to Buyer.
  • Continually assess manpower needs and achieve effective labor planning for the department to increase effectiveness.

Store Operations

  • Opening and closing of gift shop operations.
  • Perform MOD (Manager On Duty) activities as scheduled.
  • Ensure that total store operations are carried out in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee correct management of cash handling procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness by identifying and resolving safety issues in a timely manner.

Inventory Management

  • Protect company assets by adhering to appropriate merchandise handling practices and procedures.
  • Minimize shrinkage through accurate control of merchandise and related paperwork.
  • Communicate inventory problems to Buyer.
  • Work with management to organize and conduct yearly physical inventories and reconciliation.

Customer Service

  • Ensure that an excellent level of customer service is maintained and is the top priority at all times.
  • Must be able to handle difficult customer service issues and concerns.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with team, peers, and management.
Skills Needed:

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Good organization skills with attention to details.

Strong math and cash handling skills.

Effective time management and multi-tasking ability. Ability to make solid and timely decisions in a fast paced environment with limited amounts of information.

Able to work a flexible work schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Must sign and agree to park operation’s non-negotiables.

Education Experience:

High School diploma with some college preferred.

1 to 2 years management experience, preferably in a zoo, aquarium or museum type of environment. Experience in cashiering functions and/or accounting methods is required.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum educational requirements.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to withstand typical Florida climate. Must be able to work on nights, weekends, holidays, events, and flexible daily hours. Must be able to work with adults and children of various backgrounds.
