DROMEDARY CAMEL
Camelus dromedarius

Range:	Arabia-range will truly never be known because it is only in a domesticated state today	Feet are broadened to walk on sand, eyelashes protect eyes from wind-blown sand, nostrils close to keep sand out, lips are thickened to withstand the coarsest of desert plants. Their coloration matches their environment, calluses are present on knees and other parts of the body that touch the hot sand when the animal sits down. Camels survive a 40% loss of body weight without serious consequences; most animals perish when 20% of their body weight is lost.

Diet:	Eats anything that grows in the desert, salty plants
Status:	Single hump, head and body length is 10 feet, shoulder height is 6-7feet, weight is 1000-1500 pounds.

Reproduction & Offspring:	Gestation period lasts 13 months, resulting in a single calf, rarely two. The calf can move freely after the first day. Females breed every other year and have a lifespan of 30-40 years.
