The American kestrel is the smallest falcon in North America. Their wingspan reaches 21 inches. The falcons have different color plumage for males and females. The males have blue-gray wings and red tails. The females have rusty brown wings barred with black. Both sexes have two black mustache marks (malar stripe) and dark spots on the back of their heads which resemble two eyes and a beak.
