FOX SQUIRREL

Range:

Eastern and central United States.

The fox squirrel is the largest species of tree squirrel native to North America. They can be spotted in the eastern United States and have been introduced in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The squirrels have great vision and an excellent sense of smell. Scent marking is used as a form of communication. The squirrels also use their tails to communicate with one another. The squirrels will often raise and flick their tails when they feel threatened.


Habitat: Forests and fields.
Diet:

Nuts, acorns, fruits, and seeds.

Status: Lower Risk
Approximate Dimensions of Adult: Length:  23.5 in.          
Weight: 1.76 lbs.
Lifespan: 8-18 years
Incubation:

44-45 days
