EMPEROR SCORPION
Pandinus imperator

Range:
Western Africa. While scorpions live worldwide (with the exception of Antarctica), the emperor scorpion lives in the coastal countries of Western Africa, from Senegal to Congo and Gabon.
Habitat: Tropical rain forests. They like to burrow beneath the soil and can be found under rocks and other debris.
Diet:

Insects, spiders, mice and lizards.

Status: Mainly affected by man, due to over collection by pet owners, they are threatened, but still considered to be common.
Approximate Dimensions of Adult:

Weight: More than 80 grams.

Length: Around 20 cm.
Lifespan: 8 years.
Reproduction & Offspring:

All of the young are born alive. The gestation period can last from 9 months to double that much. There is typically about 8 - 13 young born at a time. They will be well cared for on the back of their mother until they are done with the first molting period. She will run them off when she feels they are ready to care for themselves. Those that linger behind are going to be eaten by her. To get them off her back she will begin to move them with her tail. She will also roll on her side to tip them off.
