| WHITE BREASTED KINGFISHER |
| Smyrna Kingfisher |
|
Range: |
South Asia from Turkey east to the Philippines |
The white-breasted kingfishers use their loud call to make their presence known in the wild. They are extremely noisy creatures and their call sounds like a constant chuckle. The birds’ bright blue back wings and tails also get them noticed in the wild. The birds have brown heads, shoulders, and lower bodies. The white-breasted kingfisher breed in pairs, however, it is unclear if the birds remain with the same partner for each breeding season. The breeding season takes place from January through August. Both parents take turns incubating the 3-7 eggs. Both parents also participate in the caring for the young birds, this is known as the fledging period and last 18-20 days.
