VICTORIA CROWNED PIGEON

Range:
Northern New Guinea

Overall blue gray color with maroon patch on chest. An elegant head crest tipped in white. Bright red eyes. The largest species of pigeons. They will forage on the ground for food. Threatening factors are habitat alteration, hunted for food and pet trade.




Habitat: Woodland forest
Diet: Fruits, berries, large seeds
Status: Near Threatened (IUCN)
Approximate Dimensions of Adult: Victoria Crowned Pigeons are the largest living pigeons, reaching lengths of between 28 and 30 inches from head to tail.
Lifespan: Up to 25 years in captivity
Reproduction & Offspring: The male will sit on the nest during the day and the female will sit at night.
