| SUN BITTERN |
| Eurypyga helias |
|
Range: |
Southern Mexico, Bolivia, and Brazil |
The Sun bittern bird flies elegantly. The birds create slow wing beats when they fly across deep bodies of water. When the Sun bittern spreads its wings you can see red, yellow, and black spots. These markings are used to scare away predators. When the birds are frightened they will fly to high tree branches. Their white, blue, and brown striped feathers allow the birds to blend into their forest surroundings.
