Also known as Count Raggi's Bird of Paradise, the Raggiana bird has been the national bird of Papua New Guinea since 1971. It is featured on the national emblem and on the national flag.
The males feature long ornamental feathers that are a red-orange color. The females of this species are fairly dull with brown feathers.
