The bearded barbet is a member of the woodpecker family. The bird uses its sharp beak to pound wholes into dead trees or stumps. The birds also use their thick beaks for to gather insects and fruit. The birds have teeth, commonly referred to as grooves, which help them eat and digest their food. The bearded barbets are gregarious birds and often live in groups of four to five.
